Akron Children’s Hospital’s Tracey Herstich and Julie Tsirambidis were named the 2012 Pediatric Nurse Practitioners of the Year by the Ohio Chapter of the National Association of Pediatric Nurse Practitioners. Herstich is a critical-care nurse practitioner; Tsirambidis care for patients at the hospital’s Brecksville office.
Gov. John Kasich has reappointed James B. Krimmel of Twinsburg to the Environmental Education Council for a one-year term.
Thirty-eight employees from Summit, Portage and Medina counties were recognized and five named winners of “Employees of Distinction” at Goodwill Industries’ 11th annual Employee of Distinction awards luncheon. Winners were Samantha Buemi, senior accountant, Bober Markey Fedorovich; Rodd Coker, vice president of business development and governance, White Hat Management; Bernadette Davis, outreach associate, Wadsworth Public Library; Diane Haller, general manager, Bruegger’s Bagels of Fairlawn; and Anita Sharp, first team case manager, Child Guidance and Family Solutions.
Joseph Kennedy, a distinguished professor of polymer science and chemistry at the University of Akron, was named one of the American Chemical Society’s fellows for 2012. Kennedy is among the 96 scientists honored for accomplishments in chemistry.
Samantha Sipe of Akron is a new member of the National Society of Collegiate Scholars.
Kent State junior Alex Evans of Hubbard was appointed as a nonvoting member to the KSU trustees by Gov. John Kasich for a two-year term that ends in May 2014. He is majoring in biology/premed, business management and public health.
Six Akron-area residents are enrolled in the Marietta College McDonough Leadership Program: Andrew Crawford of Akron; Erica Goebel and Briana Kelly of Rittman; Andrew Looker of Canton; Logan Maltese of Massillon; and Lindsey Schrock of Alliance.
Navy Seaman Michael L. Laughlin, son of Michelle L. and Christopher W. Laughlin of Akron, completed basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill. He is a 2010 graduate of Springfield High School.
Marine Corps Pvt. Dylan J. Williams, son of Leilani Lemonier of Uniontown, graduated from recruit training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, S.C. He is a 2011 graduate of Akron’s Ellet High School.
Ohio National Guard Pvt. Daniel J. Pastoria, a 2011 graduate of Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy, completed basic training and military police school at Fort Leonard Wood, Mo. He is the son of Rick and Beth Pastoria of Stow and is a student at the University of Akron.
Air Force Airman Kemitt A. Williams graduated from basic training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio. Williams, son of Amita Birkett of Akron and Floyd Williams of Canton, is a 2010 graduate of Perry High in Perry Township. .
Marine Corps Pvt. John M. Buras Jr., son of Magdalen E. Buras of Hudson and John M. Buras Sr. of Garrettsville, graduated from recruit training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, S.C. He is a 2011 graduate of Hudson High School.
