COLUMBUS: Police say they have no suspects in the fatal central Ohio shooting of a 19-year-old man whose family had emigrated from Ethiopia.
The Columbus Dispatch reports that Dinkisra Mengistu was killed early Sunday after he had just climbed into the back seat of a friend’s car at a hotel in north Columbus.
Police said a black SUV pulled up behind the car, and shots were fired through the back window. Two of the shots hit Mengistu in the head. No one else was struck. The SUV sped away.
About 80 of Mengistu’s friends gathered to remember him Sunday night behind the high school in the Columbus suburb of Westerville from which he graduated in 2012.
Mengistu emigrated with his family from Ethiopia when he was in middle school.
