Cleveland councilman Zack Reed sentenced to 10 days for DUI

Associated Press

CLEVELAND: A Cleveland city councilman convicted of driving under the influence for the third time has been sentenced to serve 10 days in jail.

Councilman Zachary Reed will begin the sentence later this month. He must also wear an alcohol-monitoring bracelet for an additional 60 days, perform community service and pay a $1,500 fine.

Reed told a judge Thursday he plans to remain sober forever and said he is being treated for alcoholism at the Cleveland Clinic.

Police said Reed was arrested in March after running a red light and making an improper turn. Police said he failed a sobriety test and refused a breath test.

Reed served a 10-day sentence in 2008 on his second drunken-driving conviction. He has been on the council for 13 years.
