CUYAHOGA FALLS: The Cuyahoga Falls City Council voted Monday to allow Mayor Don Robart to enter into an agreement to annex a portion of land from Boston Township.
The city will take over around 615 acres on the Falls border that includes Wetmore Road.
Boston Township trustees last year petitioned Summit County to allow them to vacate Wetmore, Oak Hill and Stanford roads.
Trustees said the township could no longer afford to maintain roads that have few homes and are in the Cuyahoga Valley National Park or Summit County metro parks.
The township complained that it struggles to balance its budget because 92 percent of its land is exempt from property taxes because of the expanse of park land and other exempt properties.
Robart said the city wants Wetmore Road to stay open so its safety forces can reach Haas Road residents quickly.
He argued that residents also use Wetmore to get to Akron-Peninsula Road.
The city maintained the road through the winter while the agreement was reached.
