Fire closes historic Cleveland market

Associated Press

CLEVELAND: Cleveland’s historic West Side Market is closed for the day after an overnight fire damaged some its indoor stalls.

Media reports said firefighters were called to the market at about 2:20 a.m. to put out a fire that started in one of the stalls and spread to others nearby. There was no structural damage but extensive smoke damage.

The entire market will be closed Wednesday while it’s cleaned up.

Food throughout the market also has to be inspected for health and quality assurance before it can reopen.

No one was hurt in the fire, and the cause was not immediately known.

The Cleveland landmark is marking its 100th anniversary this year.
