Here’s some sweet news for fans of Thin Mints and Samoas.
Girl Scouts of North East Ohio officially begin their annual sale of their popular cookies today.
More than 1,100 area Girl Scouts gathered at the John S. Knight Center in downtown Akron on Sunday for a Cookie Kick-off Rally to mark the start of their cookie sale season.
The Girl Scouts prepped to start peddling the cookies at the rally, which featured cookie corn hole games, a pitch prep game and a chance to taste test the cookies.
This year’s lineup includes eight varieties: Thin Mints, Samoas, Do-Si-Dos, Tagalongs, Trefoils, Savannah Smiles, Dulce de Leche and Thank U Berry Munch, made by Little Brownie Bakers.
Cookies are selling for $4 per box. The 50-cent price increase is the first in six years for the cookies.
Troops earn about 64 cents for each package sold, according to the Girl Scouts of North East Ohio.
This year’s sale starts two weeks later than past years.
Cookies will be delivered beginning March 8. Cookie booth sales at malls and other locations throughout the region will begin March 14.
The cookie sales will conclude March 30.
Last year, more than 22,480 Girl Scouts throughout Northeast Ohio participated in the cookie sale program, selling a total of nearly 3 million packages through pre-orders and booth sales.
