Beacon Journal staff report
The Ohio Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal crash occurring at 8:20 a.m. today at the intersection of Orchardview Drive and state Route 44 in Stark County, after a dump truck collided with a 2002 Kia Rio, killing the passenger and injuring the driver of the smaller vehicle.
Paul K. Jeffers, 37, of Waynesburg was pronounced dead at the scene in Osnaburg Township.
The driver of the Kio Rio, Larry H. Morrison of Waynesburg, was transported to Aultman Hospital in Canton with “non-threatening injuries,” according to a press release from the patrol.
The patrol said they believe Morrison was wearing a seat belt but Jeffers was not.
The dump truck, driven by Michael J. Sudano Jr., 57, of Niles, reportedly turned left onto Orchardview Drive while Morrison drove south on state Route 44, the patrol said.
The accident is still under investigation, though police say alcohol does not appear to be a factor.
