AKRON: The West Akron Kiwanis, North Akron Kiwanis and Salvation Army are sponsoring the Best of the West (Akron) Pizza Bake Off from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday during the Highland Square Festival.
Visitors will be able to sample local pizzas and vote for their favorite.
Contenders include: Papa John’s, East of Chicago, Domino’s, Mr. G’s, Vaccaro’s, Romeo’s, Marco’s, Your Pizza Shop, Trecaso’s (Mary Coyle) and Capri.
The event will be held in the Mary Coyle parking lot at 780 W. Market St. All proceeds will go to the Salvation Army’s Children’s Closet for distribution of school uniforms to families in need in Akron.
Tickets to the bake-off are $10 per person.

AKRON: The East South Street Neighborhood Watch will meet at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.
The meeting will be at the Hope Cafe, 335 East South St.
An Akron police officer will talk about nuisance law and curfew times for kids.
FAIRLAWN: A free five-session quit smoking class will be offered at Stewart’s Caring Place at 2955 W. Market St. Suite R in Fairlawn.
The classes will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Mondays, starting Sept. 9.

A historic steam engine is coming to the Cuyahoga Valley National Park in September.
The Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad has announced that the Nickel Plate Road 2-8-4 Berkshire No. 765 will arrive Sept. 7-8 with additional trips later in September.
The engine, built in 1944, is the largest operating locomotive in the East. It is owned by the Fort Wayne Railroad Historical Society.
Activities include two-hour round trips in the Cuyahoga Valley on Sept. 7, 8 and 14 with other trips on Sept. 7, 8 and 15.
