Cleveland State tied with seven other universities to rank second nationwide in the number of Fulbright Scholars — five — for 2012-2013.
This was the second year in the past three that the tax-supported university came in second in the international government exchange program for faculty.
Three universities tied for first place with six Fulbright Scholars each: Pennsylvania State University at University Park and the University of California campuses at Berkeley and Davis.
Spokesman Joe Mosbrook said CSU’s international studies department actively recruits faculty for the competitive, merit-based program and helps them with the lengthy application process.
CSU faculty were selected to study business in Montenegro and India, law in South Africa and Azerbaijan and computer science in Taiwan.
Ohio State and Bowling Green State University each had four Fulbright Scholars; Miami University, the University of Toledo and the University of Akron, two; and Youngstown State, Ohio University, the University of Cincinnati and Kent State, one each.
The competitive program enables faculty to study, teach and conduct research at host universities in 155 countries worldwide.
