COPLEY TWP.: Preliminary budget projections for fiscal 2013 show the township could end the next year with a healthy $11.5 million carryover.
Township Fiscal Officer Janice L. Marshall said Thursday at a special board of trustees meeting that she based the estimated $22.7 million budget on 10 months of data from fiscal 2012.
Marshall characterized the budget as her “best estimate on what’s going to happen by the end of the [next] year” and said it is “based on the latest appropriations data.”
Compared to fiscal 2012, “not much different is going to happen in 2013,” Marshall said.
Trustees President Helen Humphrys expressed confidence in Marshall’s budget, saying, “I’m comfortable with it.”
Marshall provided trustees with a 20-page worksheet so they could review expenditures.
In other business, trustees unanimously approved a $70,000 expenditure as the township’s share of a new emergency services dispatch center for Copley, Norton and Barberton.
The center’s base will be the Norton Fire Department. It has set a tentative opening date of April 1.
Copley Fire Chief Michael Benson has said the date could be pushed to June.
The largest share of the projected $510,000 cost is a $300,000, 10-year, no interest loan from the state’s Local Government Innovation Fund.
