Brimfield police Chief David Oliver issued a Facebook message to overweight people Wednesday: “You are not handicapped. . . . Movement is the cure.”
Oliver, who is overweight, was writing his daily “rant” and chose to criticize people who improperly use handicap parking spaces. His rant ended with a critique of overweight people who use their girth as a handicap for parking or driving a cart through stores.
“Don’t be a mope. You can WALK,” he wrote about handicap-space abusers.
Oliver then went on his rant against the obese.
“I am not a skinny guy. I know, you are all shocked,” he wrote. “I rant and post like a skinny guy. It’s a nice quality.
“If you use a handicapped permit because you are ‘husky’ ‘big-boned’ ‘short for your weight’ or any other term used for being overweight . . . you are missing the boat. You should walk. This also applies to the little electric carts in the store.
“Walk. You are not handicapped. You are overweight. That is not a handicap. It’s a choice. Movement is the cure.”
