Proposed pipeline would carry Ohio natural gas to Michigan, Ontario

There is another big pipeline project planned in Northeast Ohio.

Houston-based Spectra Energy Corp, Detroit-based DTE Energy and Calgary-based Enbridge Inc. announced in early September that they want to build a 250-mile pipeline from Northeast Ohio to Detroit at a cost of $1.5 billion.

It would move Utica shale natural gas tapped in Ohio to Michigan and Ontario.

The project is dubbed the Nexus Gas Transmission system and would be capable of transporting up to 1 billion cubic feet per day of natural gas. It would link to other gas transmission lines and could serve industries and utilities in Ohio, Michigan and Ontario. It largely would follow existing utility corridors.

The pipeline could be operating by November 2015.
