COLLEGE: Case Western Reserve University
It is truly a passion to be able to work as hard as these Star Students. I know, I am right there with them. Every once in a while I find myself asking, “Why do I try so hard? I mean, no one else is and they are going to turn out just fine. So why should I?” Then I smile and realize that it’s foolish to think this way.
Everyone makes choices in their lives for different reasons. It may be to make mom or dad proud, to be popular, to be the best in a sport, to be lazy, or to someday make millions. Whatever the choice, my choices in life are driven by what makes me proud of myself. I decided a long time ago that I was going to put in the work, so that I could be satisfied with myself at the end of the day. Granted, most of the time it is exhausting, but I love to learn and try to make it worth every moment by giving back what I know.
I remember my grandfather telling me at a young age that knowledge is power, for no one can take it away from you once you have attained it. Those words still stay with me today and mean so much to me. We live in a world of material goods filled with transient mementos that don’t enrich our mind, body and souls. Knowledge and culture satisfy my mind, which is why I have such a passion for it. Learning is not meant to be measured by grades, because 30 years from now that will not matter. What matters is what I remember from my years worth of studying and spending time with friends.
With that, I would like to take the time to thank my family, friends and team for making these past years of enrichment inside and outside of school a blast to participate in. Throughout all of these past years, I wouldn’t want it any other way.
