COLLEGE: Northwestern University
As we approach our graduation, finding a rewarding and fulfilling career is our main focus. It is important that we are able to support ourselves and our families in the future. However, money cannot buy happiness, and when it becomes the sole focus, people often get left in the dust.
Dr. Seuss says, “Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better. It’s not.”
The best way to have a fulfilling life is to surround yourself with people you love and care about. We are all capable of getting lost in the shuffle and forgetting what is truly important in life.
As we prepare to climb the ladders of the real world and make names for ourselves, I challenge each of you to never forget where you came from and to remember that you are the one that must make a difference. There may be billions of other people in this world. However, one evil person like Hitler was able to do worldwide damage.
If one person can do that much evil, why can’t just one person do that much good, too? So, never feel that you are too small to make a difference or that your actions do not affect others. Whether good or bad, everything you do will have an effect on someone else’s life.
Thus, it is important to not get wrapped up in our own agendas and to care about the world around us, otherwise “nothing is going to get better it’s not!”
