STOW: The Planning Commission has scheduled a meeting tonight to address two proposals that could affect Stow residents.

Auto dealer Ron Marhofer and Redmon Funeral Home’s rezoning requests will be on the agenda at 6 p.m.

Marhofer wants to redevelop the area around his business at Darrow and Kent roads. Among the key components of the proposal are eliminating Yukon Road, which bisects the dealership property, and improving the intersection at Thorndale Avenue and Darrow Road so it would be a normal 90 degrees.

The project also would involve demolishing some existing homes.

It was reported at the May 22 planning meeting that Marhofer has closed on the purchase of property at 1955 Thorndale Ave., and is under option on 1941 and 1947 Thorndale Ave. — and the rezoning of those parcels.

Over the summer, Marhofer chose to table the issue to negotiate with Thorndale Avenue residents.

The parties were unable to come to an agreement, and the issue is back in legislation.

Redmon Funeral Home has asked the city to change the text of its zoning code to allow cremation equipment. On Sept. 25, the planning commission tabled the matter to gather more information about crematories.
