Akron cleanup effort continues

What: My Neighborhood Our Akron, a new local effort to clean parks and other areas of the city. A different neighborhood was targeted each Saturday in April, then on selected Saturdays through the end of the year. This is a joint effort led by the city, Keep Akron Beautiful and numerous community organizations and volunteers.

When/Where: 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at Waters Park off Olive Street in North Akron. A Scout from Boy Scout Troop 18 of North Hill is rebuilding some of the stairs leading from the park to Glenwood Avenue for his Eagle Scout project. The troop, along with the Waters Park Renewal Society and city officials, will complete the construction Saturday. Volunteers also will pick up trash, move soil and remove weeds.

How: To join in, call the Department of Neighborhood Assistance at 330-375-2324.

How it’s going: So far, 470 volunteers have collected 157 bags of trash, as well as completed other improvement projects.
