9-year-old Mikaia Ross of Akron (top) sits on a trunk of a cut down tree as she and other concerned neighbors and members of the group Save Our Ash Tree watch as employees with Mike Jones Tree Service in Akron cut down and remove a large ash tree on a vacant lot off West Market Street in this June 4 photo. The ash tree, estimated to be between 80-100 years old by members of the group, is being felled to make way for a 25,000-square-foot retail and apartment building on the north side of West Market Street at the former site of the Von and Crescent apartment buildings.
