Akron man guilty of rape of church vounteer

Beacon Journal staff report

A Summit County jury has found David M. Anderson, 25, of Oberlin Street in Akron guilty of rape and kidnapping.

Anderson was accused of assaulting a volunteer cook for an Akron church at 8:15 a.m. on May 15.

He offered the woman a ride to the church, then pulled behind an abandoned house to assault and rape her. He told her he had a gun and threatened to shoot her.

The victim fled the car as police, alerted by a neighbor who heard a woman screaming, arrived at the scene. Anderson denied that anything happened in the car, but his DNA was found on the victim’s T-shirt, sweatshirt and sweatpants.

Judge Lynne Callahan will sentence Anderson at 9 a.m. Tuesday.
