Chesapeake Energy takes step in creating Louisville office

Associated Press

COLUMBUS: The Ohio Environmental Protection Agency has received an application from Chesapeake Energy Corp. to fill in wetlands in Louisville to build a new regional office and industrial complex.

The Oklahoma energy giant is also seeking similar approval from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

Both agencies must approve the requests before construction can begin.

Between 0.94 acres and 1.63 acres of wetlands along the East Branch of Nimishillen Creek would be affected by the development.

Chesapeake announced in July that it intends to develop 291 acres in the Beck Industrial Park between state Route 44 and Beck Road in southwest Louisville.

The complex could house 200 to 400 workers and maybe more, officials said.
