Fairlawn reopens wage talks with union employees

By Marilyn Miller
Beacon Journal staff writer

fairlawn: Mayor Bill Roth will introduce legislation tonight on wage agreements between the city of Fairlawn and full-time police and firefighters.

Both unions have been negotiating with the city for the past two weeks.

The union employees are all working under a three-year contract that had a wage reopener clause in 2012 and 2013. There were no salary increases in 2011 and a 3 percent pay increase in 2012.

The latest round of negotiations will cover 2013.

The Fairlawn Police Department has around a dozen full-time patrol officers represented by the Fraternal Order of Police, Ohio Labor Council Inc. for Patrol Officers and five full-time sergeants represented by the Fraternal Order of Police, Ohio Labor Council Inc. for Police Sergeants.

The International Association of Fire Fighters Local 4164 represents 12 full-time firefighters.

Talks are continuing with International Brotherhood of Teamsters Local 436, which represents 13 full-time workers in the service department, and the Ohio Patrolmen’s Benevolent Association for Communications Specialists, which represents six full-time dispatchers.

Other remaining contract negotiations still unresolved include part-time police and fire department employees.
