CUYAHOGA FALLS: A request from the administration to change utility deposits will be discussed by Cuyahoga Falls City Council at its Feb. 6 meeting.
The ordinance would add a $10 application fee for most new accounts.
Deposits — now required of all renters — would not be required of customers who had an account at another address the previous two years with no more than one delinquent payment.
Otherwise, all renters and home owners will have to pay a deposit of $200 to $250.
The city would return the deposit after two years of timely payments.
Previously, one year of on-time payments earned the chance of a waiver.
Small businesses would pay the equivalent of two months of service, but not less than $250 or more than $1,000.
Large businesses would pay a deposit equivalent to two months service, or a maximum of $10,000.
The ordinance includes new deposit rules for customers who file bankruptcy.
The utility department started collecting deposits from renters in 2007.
Falls Council meets at 6:30 p.m. at the Natatorium.
