Summit County home sales in January were up, climbing nearly 22 percent from the same month a year ago.
“It’s going to be a very slow turnaround, and we’re starting to see progress,” said Paul Simon with Prudential Karam & Simon Realty in Cuyahoga Falls.
A total of 309 homes were sold in the county, up 21.7 percent from the 254 sales in January a year ago and up about 36 percent from the 227 sales in January 2010, according to the Akron Area Board of Realtors.
Mirroring national trends, Summit home sales remain below pre-recession levels.
Also following national trends, the inventory of homes for sale is down.
The inventory totaled 3,658 in January, a drop of nearly 16 percent from the inventory of 4,338 homes in January 2011 and a drop of about 8 percent from the 3,985 homes available in January 2010.
The average home sale price in Summit for January was $115,253, up nearly 12 percent from $103,224 in January 2011.
The median sale price also was up, increasing nearly 24 percent to $85,000 from the $68,750 median in January 2011.
