Fight turns violent
AKRON: An Akron woman faces several charges stemming from an argument with a neighbor Thursday that ended with a shot being fired into an occupied apartment.
Officers were dispatched to the 800 block of Barbara Avenue around 6 p.m. after a resident reported that she was involved in a verbal and physical altercation with a neighbor.
Police say the resident told officers that the neighbor fired a shot that ended up lodged in an interior wall of the apartment, where two children were at the time.
Tara R. Walker, 29, faces charges of felonious assault, improper discharging of a firearm into a habitation and tampering with evidence.
Prowler fires gun
AKRON: Akron police say an Akron resident was shot about midnight Thursday when he confronted a man rummaging through his truck, which was parked in the driveway.
Police say a resident in the 1200 block of Kansas Avenue heard noises outside of his house and confronted the man.
The man fired a shot at the home’s occupant, police say, then ran toward Carey Avenue.
Officers apprehended Ryan L. Strausser, 20, on East Avenue.
Strausser, of North Howard Street, faces charges of aggravated robbery, having weapons under disability, carrying a concealed weapon and tampering with evidence.
A gun was found in the grass where he was apprehended.
No pickup delay
AKRON: The Columbus Day holiday on Monday won’t cause a delay in Akron’s trash service.
The city will follow its normal trash and recycle curb-service schedule.
Ward 10 meeting
AKRON: Garry Moneypenny, the Ward 10 councilman, will have a ward meeting at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Goodyear library branch, 60 Goodyear Blvd.
Sue Tucker, community outreach director for Summit County Domestic Relations Court, will discuss adult bullying. She was the speaker for Moneypenny’s meeting last month, but he had to cut the meeting short when a woman in the audience had a seizure.
AKRON: Akron Firefighters Local 330 will host a dinner and show fundraiser at 5:30 p.m. Nov. 10 at Akron Local Fire Fighters 330 Union Hall, 161 Massillon Road.
The event will benefit the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
The evening will include dinner and entertainment.
Tickets are $15 a person or $25 for a couple and includes dinner and two drink tickets.

‘Gotta Vote’ bus
The “Gotta Vote” bus will make stops in the Akron area today.
The bus is sponsored by the Democratic National Committee and President Barack Obama’s campaign. It is aimed at reminding voters about the Tuesday registration deadline and how early voting is going on now.
Actor Tate Donovan will be the special guest for this leg of the bus tour that has been traveling throughout Ohio.
The bus will stop at 9:45 a.m. at the Twinsburg campaign office, 7995 Darrow Road; at 11 a.m. at the West Akron campaign office, 1706 W. Market St.; at 1:45 p.m. at the Canton campaign office, 131 Cleveland Ave. S.W.; and at 3:45 p.m. at the Wooster campaign office, 135 N. Bever St.
GREEN: Summit County sheriff’s deputies responding to an incomplete 911 call in Green discovered the homeowner hiding from a man with a gun.
Authorities say the homeowner on Dewalt Drive says a man with a gun began pounding on a sliding glass door around 10:30 p.m. Thursday demanding to be let in.
When the homeowner ran and hid inside the home, authorities say, the man broke the door’s window and fled.
The man is described as a white male in his early 20s, approximately 5-feet-7 inches tall, wearing a black hooded sweatshirt with white lettering, clean shaven with blond or brown hair.
He would have recent injuries to one of his hands.
Big band benefit
LODI: Lodi Community Hospital Auxiliary will present the fundraiser Rick and Sharona in A Swinging Affair on Oct. 13 at American Legion Hall, 120 Bank St.
Proceeds will benefit Lodi Community Hospital.
The event will include an Italian cuisine dinner with beer and wine served between 5:30 and 7 p.m., followed by the show at 7:30 p.m.
The musical tribute captures the style and attitude of the classic entertainers of the Rat Pack era, such as Frank Sinatra, Peggy Lee, Bobby Darin and others.
Tickets are $20 a person or $35 for two.

MASSILLON: The annual dinner of Coming Together Stark County will be held at 6 p.m. Oct. 25 at the Massillon Knights of Columbus, 988 Cherry Road N.W.
The dinner will feature Stark State President Para Jones as the keynote speaker.
