A nine-day public rosary novena is Oct. 22 to 30 at Queen of Heaven Church, 1800 Steese Road in Green.
The special event is being done as part of the “Year of Faith” celebration in the Catholic Church. Pope Benedict XVI designated the Year of Faith to begin on Oct. 11 — the 50th anniversary of the opening of the Second Vatican Council and the 20th anniversary of the Catechism of the Roman Catholic Church. During the Year of Faith, Catholics are being asked to study and reflect on the documents of Vatican II and the Catechism as a way to strengthen their faith.
The local novena, a series of prayers that are said for nine consecutive nights, will begin at 7 p.m. each night and last about 35 minutes. During each service, the rosary will be led by a different parish group and a 10-minute talk will be given on a different title of Mary, including Mary, seat of wisdom; Mary, mother of hope; Our Lady of Sorrows and Our Lady of Guadalupe.
The talks and guest priests, in order, are: the Rev. Anthony Suso, St. Francis de Sales Parish, Coventry Township; the Rev. Gerard Gonda, Benedictine High School, Cleveland; the Rev. Joseph Kraker, St. Vincent Parish, Akron; the Rev. Robert Jasany, St. John Nepomucene Parish, Cleveland; the Rev. Edward Burba, St. Anthony Parish, Akron; the Rev. Ralph Thomas, St. Paul Parish, Akron; the Rev. Michael Pfeiffer, St. Sebastian Parish, Akron; the Rev. Steven Brunovsky, St. Hilary Parish, Fairlawn, and Brother Mario Parisi, St. Andrew’s Abbey, Cleveland.
