NORTH CANTON: City Council in a special meeting Wednesday appointed Stephanie Snow Werren to fill its vacant Ward 3 seat.
Werren replaces Tim Fox, who late last month was appointed as the city’s full-time law director. She was among seven applicants for the council post.
About 15 months remain on the unexpired term. Werren said she plans to run for a full two-year term in the 2013 election cycle.
“I am honored and thrilled to serve. I plan to jump right in and learn,” she told council.
Werren, a life resident of Stark County, is development director for Leadership Stark County. She is married to Curt Werren, regional director of the Stark County Red Cross and an attorney with Day Ketterer. They have 14-year-old triplets — two girls and a boy — and live in the Monticello area of the city.
In response to questions after her appointment, Werren, 43, identified personal strengths as leadership skills, experience in the dynamics of successful boards and in-depth knowledge of Stark County as well as Northeastern Ohio.
“I see the community from a different vantage point,” she said. “I see what is going on around [North Canton] and in other communities. I know people in leadership positions in Stark County. I know which councils work — and which ones don’t.”
Werren is a 1987 McKinley High School graduate. She earned an undergraduate degree from Miami University in 1991 and an M.B.A. from Malone University in 1999.
“This council works very well together,” Ward 2 Councilman Jeff Peters said. “We wanted someone who would complement this synergy. I believe Stephanie will fit right in.”
