College of Wooster officials announced Saturday that a Philadelphia-area couple gave $15 million to support science education, the largest gift in the college’s history.
Ruth and A. Morris Williams Jr. donated $10 million for a new integrated science facility, $2 million to endow a professorship in computational biology or bioinformatics, and $3 million for science scholarships.
The college is beginning to plan for a major overhaul and expansion of its life sciences facilities. The college will build and renovate buildings and connect the facilities in a science complex.
In the past, the couple contributed to the Williams Fitness Center, to a psychology professorship and a scholarship fund.
Ruth Williams has been a Wooster trustee since 1994 and attended the college from 1958 to 1961.
Williams is president of the investment firm Williams & Company.
Earlier this year, the couple gave $5 million to Duke University athletics. Both husband and wife graduated from Duke.
