The Summit County Medical Examiner and Akron Police Department are investigating two unrelated deaths from early Saturday.
Donnie Chatman, 36, of Rhodes Avenue, died about 5:10 a.m. in Akron General Medical Center, where he had been taken with gunshot wounds.
According to police, Chatman was shot several times in the parking lot of Club Wonder on West Bowery Street early Saturday. Police received a shots-fired call about the club at 1:18 a.m.
Two unidentified women took Chatman to Akron General.
Police had neither suspects nor a motive for the shooting as of Saturday evening, a department spokesman said.
Chatman had numerous brushes with the law dating back to at least 1994.
In the other case, an unidentified man was pronounced dead at Interstate 76 eastbound near the exit at Mogadore Road and East Market Street about 12:05 a.m. after being struck by several vehicles on the highway.
The victim carried no identification and had stepped into traffic.
A commercial tractor-trailer driver saw the man and swerved to avoid him, police said. However, a woman driving a Chrysler PT Cruiser struck the man. His body landed on the roadside, where it was hit by other vehicles and dragged farther down the highway, police said.
The Summit County Medical Examiner did autopsies on Chatman and the unidentified man Saturday.
