The University of Akron evacuated its Polsky Building in downtown Akron and canceled evening classes there after a woman reported seeing someone in the building with a weapon.

Akron Police Department said they received a call at 5:23 p.m. asking for assistance and joined university police in a floor-by-floor, room-by-room search for a man carrying a gun.

By 6:50 p.m., the search ended, and students were allowed to return to the building to retrieve their belongings.

UA spokeswoman Laura Massie said nothing was found.

Classes occurring at the time of the call were moved to another building, but later classes remained canceled and will resume as scheduled today.
