Man killed in truck rollover accident
YORK TWP.: A 32-year-old Medina man was killed Saturday night when his truck rolled over off Erhart Road less than half a mile south of state Route 18 in York Township, the Medina post of the State Highway Patrol reported.
James E. Ventura was pronounced dead at the scene.
The highway patrol said Ventura, who was driving a 1994 Ford truck, drove off the left side of Erhart Road to avoid hitting a deer shortly after 8 p.m.
The truck hit a ditch and rolled onto its side.
Ventura was partially thrown from the vehicle and trapped underneath.
Two passengers, identified as Sabrina Ventura, 38, of Medina, and Jeffrey Flanik, 43, of Litchfield, were treated at the scene for minor injuries and released.
No one in the truck appeared to be wearing a seat belt, the highway patrol said.
Alcohol consumption before the crash is suspected, the highway patrol said in a release.
Woman, 25, killed
in two-van collision
SUFFIELD TWP.: A 25-year-old Canton woman was killed when the van she was driving went through a stop sign on Congress Lake Road at U.S. Route 224 and hit another vehicle just before 1:30 p.m. Sunday in Suffield Township in Portage County, the Ravenna post of the Ohio Highway Patrol said.
Jessica A. Collins apparently was not wearing a seat belt, the patrol said.
She was pronounced dead at the scene.
No one else was in the van, the highway patrol said.
Collins was driving a Chevrolet Venture van northbound on Congress Lake Road when she went through a stop sign at the intersection with Route 224 and hit an eastbound Dodge Caravan driven by James R. Lendon, 72, of Canfield.
Both vehicles went off the road, and Collins' van also hit a fence before stopping.
Lendon and his passenger, Barbara J. Lendon, 68, also of Canfield, were listed in satisfactory condition Sunday night at Akron City Hospital. They were wearing seat belts, the patrol said in a release.
Man seriously hurt
in accident on I-71
BRUNSWICK TWP.: A 29-year-old Brunswick man remained in critical condition Sunday night at MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland following a one-vehicle crash Sunday morning in Medina County's Brunswick Township.
Jerry Cooper Jr. was injured when the car he was driving went out of control about 10 a.m. on Interstate 71 at the Grafton Road overpass, the Medina post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol reported.
Cooper's car, a 2003 Chevrolet Cavalier, was northbound on I-71 and starting to pass another vehicle when the Cavalier went out of control and hit a guardrail on the left side of the interstate.
Cooper was taken by helicopter to the hospital.
The crash closed I-71 for about 40 minutes.
