1HOUSTON
Goodyear worker dies
One worker was killed and six others were injured Wednesday in an explosion at a Goodyear chemical plant. The body of the worker, whose name was not released, was found under debris about seven hours after the 7:30 a.m. blast in a heat exchange unit, company spokesman Scott Baughman said. The plant was evacuated for several hours. About 200 people were in the plant at the time. There was no danger to the public, plant officials said.

Area loses insurance
State Farm Insurance Cos. said Wednesday it will discontinue homeowner policies within 1,000 feet of the beach on the Mississippi Gulf Coast, an area that was devastated by Hurricane Katrina in 2005. The company said policies in the area will not be canceled immediately, but won't be renewed.

Heat wave kills 17
An East Coast heat wave has claimed the lives of 17 people, mostly of them elderly, authorities said. Fatalities were recorded in the Philadelphia area, New York City and Maryland.

New term for Pluto
