N.Y. garbage truck falls on car, killing driver

EAST NORTHPORT, N.Y.: Police say a driver was killed after a Long Island garbage truck fell on her car.

Suffolk County police say the accident occurred in East Northport on Monday morning while the truck was making a turn. The car's driver, identified as 56-year-old Deborah Shavalier, of Fort Salonga, was stopped at a red light. She was declared dead at the scene.

The truck driver was identified as 49-year-old Robert Moore. His hometown was not immediately known.

Police said the truck was being inspected for safety checks, but that no charges were immediately filed in the crash. The investigation is continuing.
