Jury convicts Kentucky man in death of Ohio pastor

By Associated Press

INDEPENDENCE, KY.: A Kenton County jury has convicted a northern Kentucky man in a shooting that killed a pastor and wounded a deacon.

The Kentucky Enquirer reports that a jury found 41-year-old Frederick Davis guilty of manslaughter and attempted manslaughter in the shootings last November.

Donald Fairbanks died and Dowdell Cobb was wounded as they arrived for a funeral at a Covington church. Fairbanks was the pastor and Cobb a deacon at New St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church in Cincinnati.

Prosecutors had argued the killings were ''a deliberate and intentional act.'' Attorneys for Davis argued the shootings were done under extreme emotional disturbance.

Sentencing is scheduled for Oct. 19.
