Hijack suspect arrested

A man wanted in the hijacking of a flight out of New York 40 years ago was arrested Sunday after arriving on a flight from Cuba, federal authorities said. Luis Armando Pena Soltren, 66, was wanted in the Nov. 24, 1968, hijacking of a Pan Am flight bound for Puerto Rico. Soltren was arrested at John F. Kennedy International Airport, federal prosecutors said. Soltren is expected to be arraigned Tuesday in Manhattan on a 1968 indictment.

Lionel Pincus, 78, founder and chairman of private-equity firm Warburg Pincus, died at his home in Manhattan on Saturday. Pincus, who died after a long illness, is credited with playing a role in changing federal regulations on investing,

Bus crash kills teacher 7

A bus carrying a celebrated Utah high school band swerved off an Idaho interstate and crashed on its side, killing an instructor and injuring multiple students. Police identified the person killed in the Saturday wreck as Heather Christensen, 33, a woodwind instructor for the American Fork High School band.

Landslide diverts river

A massive landslide in central Washington blocked a highway, diverted a river and heavily damaged a home Sunday. No injuries were reported, but authorities told the Yakima Herald-Republic that residents near Nile were being evacuated. Several homes had water damage as the Naches River sought a new course around the slide.

'Couples Retreat' is No. 1

Swingers co-stars Vince Vaughn and Jon Favreau buddied up for the weekend's top movie as Couples Retreat debuted with $35.3 million, while fright flick Paranormal Activity leaped into the top 10. Shot for a reported $15,000, Paranormal Activity came in at No. 5 with $7.1 million. It played in narrow release of just 160 cinemas, a fraction of the theater count for other top movies.

Gas prices drop to $2.47

The average price of regular gasoline in the United States has dropped 4.5 cents to $2.47 over a two-week period, according to the national Lundberg Survey released Sunday.
