EAST SPRINGFIELD, Pa.: An autopsy has been scheduled on the body of a 51-year-old man discovered when a fisherman got his hook caught on the body in a creek near Erie.
Erie County Coroner Lyell Cook identified the man found Sunday morning as 51-year-old Dennis Merritt.
Cook says the body was found near the Route 19 bridge in Waterford Township. The waterway is an outlet of Lake LeBoeuf (lah-BUFF') near French Creek.
Cook says the man lived in a motel near where his body was found and was carrying money and identification.
Cook says it doesn't appear foul play was involved, though police are questioning people about the man's death. An autopsy was planned Monday.
