Plane crashes into house
At least three people were killed when a small plane crashed into a house Friday afternoon while trying to land at a central Florida airport, the Florida Highway Patrol said. The pilot told controllers that the engine was shaky and there was smoke coming from the plane. The plane was also entering bad weather.
Senator pleads guilty
U.S. Sen. Michael Crapo, R-Idaho, pleaded guilty Friday to a charge of driving while intoxicated and then apologized for his actions and asked forgiveness from his constituents. Crapo said nothing during a brief appearance in court, where he pleaded guilty to the misdemeanor and was ordered to pay a $250 fine and complete an alcohol safety program. He also agreed to a 12-month suspension of his driver’s license. Crapo apologized outside of court and in a conference call with reporters.
2nd escapee recaptured
The second of two bank robbers who escaped last month from a high-rise federal jail in downtown Chicago was captured Friday afternoon, at an apartment complex across the street from the police department in suburban Palo Hills, authorities said. Kenneth Conley fled the Metropolitan Correctional Center last month with Joseph “Jose” Banks, apparently by smashing a hole in a wall and squeezing through before scaling down about 20 stories using a knotted rope made out of bed sheets.
