Plane crashes into house
At least three people were killed when a small plane crashed into a house Friday afternoon while trying to land at a central Florida airport, the Florida Highway Patrol said. The 1957 Beechcraft H35 Bonanza was heading from Fort Pierce to Knoxville, Tenn., when it began experiencing mechanical problems. The pilot told controllers that the engine was shaky and there was smoke coming from the plane. The plane was also entering bad weather.

Senator pleads guilty
U.S. Sen. Michael Crapo, R-Idaho, pleaded guilty Friday to a charge of driving while intoxicated and then apologized for his actions and asked forgiveness from his constituents. Crapo said nothing during a brief appearance in court, where he pleaded guilty to the misdemeanor and was ordered to pay a $250 fine and complete an alcohol safety program. He also agreed to a 12-month suspension of his driver’s license. Crapo apologized outside of court and in a conference call with reporters.
CHICAGO
2nd escapee recaptured
The second of two bank robbers who escaped last month from a high-rise federal jail in downtown Chicago was captured Friday afternoon, at an apartment complex across the street from the police department in suburban Palo Hills, authorities said. Kenneth Conley fled the Metropolitan Correctional Center last month with Joseph “Jose” Banks, apparently by smashing a hole in a wall and squeezing through before scaling down about 20 stories using a knotted rope made out of bed sheets.

Saudi officer charged
A sergeant in Saudi Arabia’s air force was jailed on charges that he pulled a young boy into a hotel room and sexually assaulted him Monday morning. Mazen Alotaibi, 23, faces charges including kidnapping, sexual assault with a minor and felony coercion that could get him decades in state prison, according to police and charging documents obtained Friday.
