LiVERPool twp.: An off-duty North Olmsted police officer was injured in a two-vehicle crash in Medina County early Saturday morning.

Patrolman Jack A. Justice, 43, of Valley City, was in critical condition after being taken by medical helicopter to MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland.

Dalton P. Phillips, 23, of Columbia Station, was driving a 1992 Dodge Ram truck north on Station Road just after midnight when he failed to round a curve and drove off the east side of the road, the Medina post of the Ohio Highway Patrol reported Saturday.

Troopers said Phillips overcorrected his truck, drove left of center and collided with Justice, who was traveling south in a 2008 Chevrolet Cobalt.

Phillips’ truck traveled off the west side of the highway, struck a ditch and overturned. He was taken to Southwest General Hospital in Middleburg Heights, troopers said.

Sgt. Dave Huspaska of the North Olmsted Police Department said Justice was working an off-duty job Friday night and was on his way home when the crash occurred.

Justice has worked for North Olmsted police for 14 years.

“He is a great guy, a great officer and a family man,” Huspaska said of Justice.

No information on charges was available. The crash remained under investigation.
