Police cruiser hits, kills Columbus man

By Associated Press

COLUMBUS: Police say a Columbus man was struck by a police cruiser early Sunday while lying in a road on the city's north side.

Authorities say a police car from suburban Minerva Park accidentally ran over 25-year-old Boback Pourfarhadi, who died at the scene.

Police say the man had fallen, and they suspect he had been drinking.

He was hit by the patrol car about 3:30 a.m. Sunday in an unlit area away from cross streets.

The president of the local police union says the Minerva Park officer who was driving has been placed on paid leave. The officer's name has not been released.
