Mom whose toddler died in hot car shares story with Oprah

By Associated Press

CINCINNATI: A Southwest Ohio mother whose toddler died after being left in a sweltering car will share her story on an episode of The Oprah Winfrey Show set to air Wednesday.

Brenda Nesselroad-Slaby left her 2-year-old daughter in a car seat while she went to work at a Clermont County middle school last summer. She was not charged.

The episode was taped Sept. 2 and is Nesselroad-Slaby's first national television interview. It's billed by the show as a wake-up call for busy moms from ''the most hated mom in America.'' Nesselroad-Slaby has said she hopes others learn from her daughter's death.

A similar case occurred in August when a Cincinnati Christian University professor left her infant daughter in a hot car. She also was not charged.

Why are these women not being charged? This is beyond pathetic. They should both never be let out of prison. I don't care how "busy" they think they are, only complete incompetent idiots could forget their own babies and just go to work. What is wrong with people today? What happened to our children being the most important things in our lives? They both need to be locked in hot cars for a few days and see if they survive.

I am a busy mom whose first priority is my children-- how is leaving your child in a car for 8 hours "just an accident" These moms need to be held accountable for there "absentmindedness" Give me a break.

Not charged??? That is SO wrong! Sorry, I don't see any excuse for that. Children should be a first priority and I can't imagine forgetting that my child was in the car for so long that he/she dies of the heat. I have driven past the babysitters on the way to work because I didn't take her there every day... and then go "oh, duh" but NEVER got out of my car and forgot my child!!!

I forgotten a lot of things in my life time. I have forgotten my keys and my purse a million times, locked my keys in my car, got locked out of my own house....I even forgot my own 21st birthday (don't ask). But I would never, ever, EVER, NOT EVER forget my own baby. Stupidity is not an excuse for murder.
