Akron kicking off recycle campaign; will be checking bins starting today

Beacon Journal staff report

Akron will kick off an educational campaign on recycling Tuesday that will include spot checks of residents’ recycle bins to see if they are throwing out the correct items.

Employees will leave tags on the bins of residents who are attempting to recycle unapproved items and their recycling won’t be picked up. Residents will then need to remove the unapproved items from their bins and put the bins back out on their next collection day.

Residents who have questions about the program or what they can and can’t be recycled may call the 311 information line from any land line or 330-375-2311 from any phone. The city also has a special recycle line: 330-375-2129.

More information also is available on the city’s Sanitation Services page: http://akronohio.gov/pubwks02.html.
