A Portage County postal carrier has been indicted by a federal grand jury for theft and unauthorized opening of mail.
Joni R. Smith, 35, of Mogadore, allegedly opened and stole 63 first-class letters and their contents on Feb. 23, authorities said. The letters contained gift cards and money, according to the indictment.
Smith is a rural carrier associate assigned to the Rootstown Post Office.
