Summit County sheriff’s detectives have arrested a suspect accused of being the driver of an SUV that struck a University of Akron student and a deputy on East Exchange Street last month.
Artemus D. Blanding, 23, of Bedford Heights, has been charged with one count of attempted murder, two counts of felonious assault, and one count of aggravated vehicular assault.
He is being held in the Summit County Jail under a $25,000 bond.
Deputy Jonathan Ridemedio and a student were treated for unspecified injuries after being hit while standing in the McDonald’s restaurant parking lot at 246 E. Exchange St. about 3 a.m. April 13.
Deputies said the SUV driver and a female passenger fled the scene.
Security camera videos showed several people talking to the driver before the men were struck. Deputies asked for the public’s help last month in an effort to identify as suspect.
