AKRON: Two council members will have ward meetings this week.
Jim Hurley, the Ward 1 councilman, will have a meeting from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Patterson Park Community Center, 800 Patterson Park. A representative from the Department of Neighborhood Assistance will discuss block watches. A school board official will talk about the new Harris elementary school.
Ward 8 Councilwoman Marilyn Keith will have a meeting at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at Northwest Family Recreation Center, 1730 Shatto Ave. Judge John Quinn will discuss grandparents’ rights. Akron Aeros owner Ken Babby will detail the season and give away two free tickets to a game. Donna Skoda from the Summit County Health Department will provide information on available services.
The Northwest Akron Block Watch Group will meet at 6 p.m. before Keith’s meeting.
AKRON: The Ellet Band Boosters will hold its annual spaghetti dinner fundraiser from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the Ellet Bingo Hall, 2204 E. Market St.
The meal will include spaghetti with meat sauce, salad, rolls and butter, dessert and a drink. The dinner will include music provided by the Ellet High School Jazz Band and raffle prizes. Tickets for the event are $6 for ages 13 and up, $4 for ages 4-12 and free for 3 and under.
Proceeds will benefit the Ellet Band Boosters with their support of the music program at Ellet High School.
Cabin Fever Tour
PENINSULA: The annual Cabin Fever Tour — stretching along state Route 303 from Peninsula to Richfield — will be from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday.
Celebrate the arrival of spring by strolling down Main Street, where area businesses, museums and organizations have special events planned.

MEDINA TWP.: Medina Creative Housing is staging its seventh annual Raising the Roof fundraising dinner Saturday.
The dinner will run from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. at the Weymouth Country Club. Music will be provided by Keith Jones and the Makeshifts.
Tickets are $100 a person.

RAVENNA: The Realize Firearms and Awareness Coalition will host a program explaining ALICE at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Maplewood Career Center, 7075 State Route 88.
The ALICE training program is a crisis training program that stands for Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter and Evacuate.
The purpose of the program is to inform the public of training that is being taught and implemented in school and public settings.

Help for veterans
RAVENNA: Emeritus at Ravenna is hosting a free veterans seminar at 2 p.m. Thursday at its facility, 141 Chestnut Hill Drive.
The seminar will provide information on how veterans, who are at least 65 years old, may be eligible to receive up to $2,054 per month for assisted living or nursing home costs.
A Veterans Affairs accredited claims agent will be present to answer questions.
