PORT HURON, MICH.: An Ohio boxer whose blood from a fight led to bank robbery charges is returning to a Michigan court for his sentence.

Federal prosecutors are recommending about 12 years in prison for Martin Tucker, who was convicted of robbing the Monroe County Community Credit Union near the Ohio-Michigan border. He’s due in Port Huron federal court on Tuesday.

Investigators say the Toledo, Ohio, man pulled out a semi-automatic pistol during the 2009 robbery with another man. Tucker was charged three years later, partly based on a DNA match. The FBI obtained a swab used to stop bleeding during a boxing match.

At the time of his arrest, Tucker was preparing for a light welterweight title fight. His attorney says Tucker is capable of rehabilitating himself and avoiding trouble.
