Since 1935, thousands of thrill-seeking kids and their families have made an annual pilgramage to Akron, home of the All-American Soap Box Derby. The summer staple invites children to build gravity-powered cars and race to win a title in their own hometown. The city champions then gather in Akron each July for a daylong showdown to determine the world champions. Read the story>>

The movie: '25 Hill'

Actor and director Corbin Bernsen was so moved by the All-American Soap Box Derby's financial plight that he wrote a script about the derby and is filming it in the Akron area. On race day, July 24, his crew will be filming scenes for 25 Hill at Derby Downs. Derby officials hope both sides of the stands '5,000 seats in all' will be filled. For the derby, the movie means money 'perhaps $100,000' and the chance to get the event on TV before youths who don't know about it.Read more stories about the movie here.
