Multibase, which makes thermoplastics in Copley Township, took first place Friday as seven companies competed at the third annual Corporate Challenge Derby.
The team from Allstate Insurance was second, with Bridgestone Americas third.
Those top three teams are invited to return to Derby Downs next Saturday to race again at the FirstEnergy All-American Soap Box Derby.
This year’s All-American race will be the event’s 75th.
Representatives from the seven companies spent about two hours Friday afternoon building and decorating their derby cars. Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. was recognized for best overall design.
The other competitors in the challenge were the consultant-design-engineering firm Arcadis, the accounting-advisory firm Bober Markey Fedorovich & Co., and mineral supplier National Lime & Stone.
All teams paid an entry fee of $1,250, with proceeds benefiting the All-American Soap Box Derby and United Way of Summit County.
About 450 local and rally champions ages 7 to 17 will arrive Monday in downtown Akron for opening ceremonies for race week. The annual welcoming parade will extend from Canal Park Stadium to Lock 3 Park for racer introductions.
