A Stow man was sentenced Tuesday to 15 years in prison after pleading guilty to the rape and kidnapping of a woman who lived nearby, authorities said.
Filip Konstantinovich, 49, of Fishcreek Road, broke into the woman’s apartment on the morning of Sept. 13 and raped her at knife point after he had been on a crack cocaine binge for four days, prosecutors said.
He fled after the victim pretended to pass out while he was choking her.
Two days later, Konstantinovich was caught by Brimfield Township police after dispatchers relayed a tip from a customer that he was at the Walmart store off Tallmadge Road.
Police did not find him inside, but recognized a silver Ford Taurus that fit the description of his car as it sped out of the parking lot. Officers from Brimfield and Tallmadge pursued the car and took Konstantinovich into custody after he crashed into a utility pole on Mogadore Road.
Prosecutors said Stow police were able to link Konstantinovich to the crime scene through fingerprints and DNA evidence.
Summit County Common Pleas Judge Tammy O’Brien handled the case.
She ordered that Konstantinovich be placed in the highest sex-offender category, Tier III.
That requires him to register with the county sheriff every 90 days for life.
