Beacon Journal staff report
Stow police are offering a reward for the identity of the person who fired a flare into a Mac Drive apartment late on the Fourth of July.
No one was injured, and the smoke and fire damage was confined to one unit inside the complex in the 1400 block of Mac Drive. The resident was forced out of the unit and spent the night at a hotel.
The incident happened about 11:20 p.m., when the resident returned and noticed a broken window. She called police, believing her apartment was burglarized, police said.
An officer investigating the window damage noticed the room filling with smoke and extinguished a clothes basket. Police say a flare was used at close range to ignite the fire.
Anyone with information is asked to call Stow police at 330-689-5731 or CrimeStoppers at 330-434-2677. CrimeStoppers is offering a reward of up to $2,000 for a tip that results in an arrest.
