The Cavaliers waived center Micheal Eric, forward Kevin Jones and guard D’Aundray Brown on Saturday to set their opening-night roster at 15.
All three were undrafted rookies. Eric played on the Cavs’ summer league team, but disappointed with an inconsistent training camp. Jones is an undersized power forward and Brown was signed on Thursday in an attempt to get him on the Cavs’ Development League team roster.
Under league rules, all players released must clear waivers. Once that happens, teams can protect up to three players from their training camp roster to place on their D-League teams. The Cavs are interested in keeping all three of Saturday’s cuts, plus point guard Kevin Anderson, who was waived earlier in camp.
Once they clear waivers, three of the four can be placed on the Canton Charge roster. The fourth will go back into the D-League draft.
The Cavs’ opening night roster is set: Guards — Kyrie Irving, Dion Waiters, Daniel Gibson, Donald Sloan, Jeremy Pargo. Forwards — C.J. Miles, Alonzo Gee, Omri Casspi, Luke Harangody, Luke Walton, Tristan Thompson, Samardo Samuels, Jon Leuer. Centers — Anderson Varejao, Tyler Zeller.
