Food Notes
Taste of Home coming to Akron

By Lisa Abraham

Mark your calendars for March 13 — that's when the Taste of Home Cooking School rolls into Akron.

The event will bring teachers from the popular cooking magazine, which specializes in homespun fare and offers dozens of tried-and-true recipes each month.

The show includes 21/2 hours of demonstrations of spring recipes, and there will be more than 20 vendors offering samples, coupons and prizes. It's at the St. Joseph Family Center, 610 W. Exchange St., Akron. Doors open at 5 p.m. and the show starts at 6:30 p.m.

Tickets are $10 and can be purchased at the offices of the WAKR/WQMX radio stations, which are sponsoring the school. To order tickets by mail, send a self-addressed stamped envelope with a check or money order made out to WAKR/WQMX Taste of Home, 1795 W. Market St., Akron, OH 44313.

Working wine in the diet

The Greater Akron Dietetic Association is hosting An Evening of Wine and Wisdom at Sarah's Vineyard on March 10.

The wine tasting is paired with nutritional information for diabetics, and includes samples of five Sarah's Vineyard wines and appetizers.

Nutrition information will be presented on 12 topics in a speed-rotation format. Some of the topics are weight loss, fiber, low sodium and portion control.

The event is $25, with proceeds benefiting local dietetic scholarships. Call Megan Kinnison at 330-334-2997 for reservations at 5, 6 or 7 p.m. Checks for tickets, made out to GADA, should be mailed to P.O. Box 1832, Stow, OH 44224. Sarah's Vineyard is at 1204 W. Steels Corners Road, Cuyahoga Falls.

Market meeting

Farmers' markets will be here before we know it.

Organizers from the Ohio State University Extension in Medina County will hold a meeting on its farmers' market at 5:30 p.m. Feb. 28. Topics to be discussed are setting the market's calendar, application fees and sponsorship opportunities.

The session will be in the downstairs meeting room at 120 W. Washington St., Medina.

For information, call David Civittolo at 330-725-4911, Ext. 107, or e-mail him at civittolo.1@osu.edu.
