INDIANAPOLIS: By 3 p.m. today, the Cavaliers' roster could look very different. Or not.
Two league sources said the Cavs' front office is mulling over a blockbuster trade ahead of today's trading deadline. It is a complex deal, because for it to make sense, a second complimentary trade would probably need to be accomplished, too.
Another potential hitch could be haggling over a first-round draft pick the Cavs are also looking to acquire.
This potential deal is not part of the Cavs' pursuit of Memphis Grizzlies shooting guard Mike Miller. The Cavs have made offers to the Grizzlies for Miller, but a league source indicated Wednesday that the Grizzlies were leaning toward not trading Miller based on the offers they'd received.
Cavs General Manager Danny Ferry has generally been conservative when making changes to his roster, though he has swung for the fences in making bids for players like Kevin Garnett, Pau Gasol, Jason Kidd and Mike Bibby.
Sports Illustrated reported Wednesday that the Cavs' offer of Ira Newble, Drew Gooden and Shannon Brown for Bibby was turned down by the Sacramento Kings before they sent Bibby to the Atlanta Hawks.
If nothing else, the Cavs are being extremely active as the deadline approaches. Then again, they were last season, but ended up not being able to pull off a trade.
